PASTURE RAISED PORK
Pigs are raised here at CCF on a half acre of pasture. Each spring around mid-April we purchase heritage breed piglets from a local farm and raise them for approximately 5 months until they hit market weight. We then have the pigs professionally processed at a nearby state licensed meat facility. Each customer chooses how they would like their meat cut and how much of it they would like smoked. Once the pork is fully processed and wrapped, we pick it up and bring it back to CCF to distribute to our customers. If interested in a whole or half pig, please sign up by filling out and mailing the pork sign up form (link below), to Cobble Creek Farm, 407 Hardscrabble Rd., Olmstedville NY, 12857. A deposit is required to reserve your pig.
CCF Pork Cost and Deposit
Half Pig: $4.00/pound of hanging weight plus processing (Deposit - $75.00)
Full Pig: $4.00/pound of hanging weight plus processing (Deposit - $150.00)
A pig's hanging weight varies between 160 lbs. (small pig) and 220 lbs. (large pig).
Cost Breakdown:
- $4.00/pound of the pig's hanging weight. This goes to Cobble Creek to cover the cost of the piglet, grain feed, and raising for approximately 5 months (housing, feeding, watering, transporting to and from processor, basic care).
- Processing costs. This covers cost of the pig's slaughter, cutting, smoking, and wrapping, and disposal. While the exact cost of processing depends on the size of the pig and the amount of meat the customer chooses to have smoked, expect the processing fee for a whole pig to be between $300.00 and $400.00, while the processing cost for a half pig typically varies between $150 and $200.
Example: A whole pig with a hanging weight of 190 lbs.
190 lbs. X $4.00/lbs. = $760.00 (payment to CCF)
~ Processing costs = $380.00 (payment to processor)
~ Cost of full pig = $1140.00
